Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyze determination of gender roles in the art field over the history of art. The conditions of making art are an integral part of social structure. While history is studying on the consequences of social conditions, it is the historian who decides what is worthwhile in the process of recording.As decision makers composed of men, it reveals a history conception that the subject is men and perspective is masculine. Women are often excluded from the historical intereasts, and this is also true for the history of art. Sexist reviews of masculine view besieged the field of art and the women have fought to reveal for their artistic identity in this field. Women have to have their self and artistic identity in unequal conditions in such an art place where language, aesthetic values, symbols of instrumental are masculine. It is clear that various acquirements have been gained in the fight they put forth along with the feminist concept of art. To put a strong artistic identity, the restrictiveness of masculine structure in the artistic field should be averted.
