Abstract

One of the most important materials in teaching Turkish is textbooks. Textbooks have an effective means of reaching the general and specific aims of Turkish teaching through the texts they contain. The types and themes of these texts are determined according to the principles prevailing in curricula. The aim of this research is to reveal how the revised Turkish Curriculum by 2017 reflects the genres and themes of the 5th grade Turkish textbook. For this purpose, the aspects and the places of the topics that should be carried by the texts in the Turkish Language Teaching Program of 2017 have been mentioned. Since the 2017 Turkish Curriculum will be implemented in stages, only 5th grade Turkish textbooks have been examined in this study. In the study, the types and themes found in the textbooks have been determined, the frequency of the types and themes and their suitability to the Turkish Curriculum have been evaluated. Findings related to the subject have been discussed in the section of findings and various suggestions have been made in the conclusion part.
