Abstract

Contemporary art movements, in other words, modern art movements support avant-garde (innovation) in the field of art. Expressionism and Surrealism are also included in the contemporary art movements. Sometimes artists prefer to depict personal or social histories in their works. Individuals, personal stories, and Works highlighted by Expressionism have been associated. The works of Turkish artists such as Alp Tamer Ulukılıç and Mustafa Horasan were evaluated in the "Neo Expressionism" movement that emerged in the 20th century. For both artists, the art of painting has been instrumental in reflecting the subconscious. In this context, besides the works on which the mental state is revealed, the surreal images are depicted as well. Within the scope of the research, ten works of Alp Tamer Ulukılıç and five of Mustafa Horasan were examined in terms of form and content. The data of Mustafa Horasan were obtained with open-ended semi-structured questions developed by the researcher. In the end, it was understood that the works were both interwoven with Expressionism and Surrealism.
