Abstract

Haldun Taner is accepted as an important author in our literature. The most important reason of this is his having a wide cultural background and using this cultural background in his stories for the best. He works on unaddressed topics in a way reflecting our people and society with a nice language. Taner doesn’t uses ficti-tional elements in his works much. He forms his stories through his memories and social elements he experienced. Having no aesthetical worry, author conveys his sto-ries to his reader by using spoken language. Taner not only knows our language’s delicacies but also have a grasp of genre of class, age, style, neighbourhood. Besides, author considers genre characteristics while forming characters of his stories. Using spoken language in his stories, as there are foreigner settings and characters in his stories he also uses English, French and German words. We sometimes come across slang words, dialect features and foreigner words in his stories we analyze. Author exploits doubling, sentence repetition, echoic words for making the narration more effective. While we come detect dialect features in 43 of 56 stories we analyze, we can’t finds these features in 13 stories.
