Abstract

Micro credit are widely used in economic development and specifically in developing countries. Micro credits constitute a major part of services provided by Micro Finance establishments. Micro credits have proved to have both economic and social impacts on lives of credit users. In this context socio-economic impact of micro credits on women credit users was investigated in this survey. Women using microcredit from Mersin Grameen Bank, Micro Finance branch constituted the survey population of this research. Eight groups (40 persons) were identified as the sample population size. Micro credits were used by low-income, married and generally women with elementary education. Micro loans were found to be used in traditional jobs done at home. It was also found that there was an increase in household income of women using micro loans. Micro credits had also a positive impact on social status of credit users.
