Abstract

It is natural that there are differences between art and aesthetics. Because, art and aesthetics always have a subjective aspect. Therefore, the differences in definitions on poetry or in the studies toward determining its limitations are in its nature. What really matters in art is the work created. Once the work is born, it also brings its own shape and the essence. The history of poetics which focuses on what poetry is and should be goes back to Greek philosophy. Some information about the art of poetry can be seen in work which focuses on philosophy of beauty dating from Aristo. This word which passes from Old Greek to other Western Languages is being used as poetics or the art of poetry in our language. Although we cannot mention about independent work belonging to poetics of our classical poetry, we can find information about poetry in tezkires (collection of poems), preface to divan (collected poems) and fahhriyye sections of kaside (eulogy). Moreover, we can find information that can be associated with poetry in mahlas beyits of gazelle and in other poems telling about poetry. Poets, in recent years, have been clearly expressing what they understand from the poetry in their own writings or in the interviews done with them. There are poets who don’t express their opinions about poetry though they deal with and write poem. However, some work toward poems to determine the policy of poet’s poetics has recently stood out from the viewpoint that every poet has his/her own mental understanding. In the present study, we will try to make some determinations about art based on the poems of Şeyhülislam Yahya, who is one of the most important poets of 17th Century.
