Abstract

Language is an effective means of communication. Establishing effective communications by humans is only possible with the acquisition of language skills in an efficient manner. Reading, which is among the basic language skills, is given place in teaching curricula as one of the learning area that will be used by us in a lifelong manner. The act of reading is a complex process involving physiological, mental and psychological aspects. Learning reading process starts with basic literacy skills, and may be developed in following educational processes. Reading is a skill that covers exploring, interpreting, and critical thinking stages, and may be developed in future processes. The strategies, methods and techniques used during teaching reading have great importance in the process of making individuals acquire the equipment needed for critical and creative reading. The importance of reading models that put the student to the forefront is also great in developing reading skills. When the literature is reviewed, it is observed that the strategies used together with interactive reading model has developed the reading skills of students. If the issue of how these strategies, methods and techniques may be applied is taught in a gradual manner, and if the issue of how students may be in interaction with the text they read is taught, an important step will be taken in developing the reading skills of students.
