Abstract

In this study, it is tried to indicate by depending upon the education system that the death of Byzantine doesn’t mean the death of its civilization. The basic education both in the Byzantium and the Islamic world was very close to each other in terms of general conditions and principles. Both sides showed resemblance in the meaning of the raising, place, and age of human. Sanctuaries and education were concentric. The statutes of teachers were similar to each other. Curriculum programs and teaching methods were the same. While secondary education entirely resembled, higher education resembled in terms of curriculum programs. The Enderun carried the traces of Magnatura. Though the upper classes were luckier in girls’ education both in Byzantine and Ottoman, girls didn’t have a good education like boys as a general rule. Dervish lodges as well as the monasteries were popular educational institutions. Calligraphy was a notable activity in Ottoman, just in Byzantine. This case shows that the Ottomans was affected by the education system of the Byzantium.
