Abstract

A nation's competitiveness is an important indicator used in international comparisons. Competitiveness is based on a comprehensive method of calculation, in which many socio-economic criteria are jointly determined. In international trade, highly competitive nations can use the international resources more effectively and efficiently and to offer a higher level of prosperity to its people. For this reason, raising the competitive power in international trade has become an important criterion and target. Competitiveness can be calculated in terms of business, industry or country. The work done in this way is important in terms of the determination of the current situation and the precautions to be taken. In this study, the factors that affect the competitive power of Turkey’s Hazelnut product at the foreign trade, which spread throughout the Black Sea Region and constitute an important source of income in the regional economy, are discussed. Within this scope, the concept of competitiveness required for Turkey, which meets 70% of world hazelnut production and 85% of its exports, can get a higher share from hazelnut exports is examined from different angles. The study also analyzes the competitiveness of the Turkey’s hazelnut based on the diamond model developed by Michael Porter.
