Abstract

Violence and trauma, which leave traces on human life, are key elements of horror and thriller movies, because of genres’ nature. Horror and thriller movies heavily use metaphors and thus they can create subtexts that reflect subconsciousness while telling a story. TV series that continue for years move beyond that; they emotionally attach audiences to themselves through the element of wonder, identification also occurs in a greater degree compare to cinema. Within this framework, tv series “Dexter” and “Bates Motel” have been analyzed in the study. Representing a serial killer as a protagonist rather than an antagonist, occuring in modern days, and having high ratings are the common points that have been effective for choice of mentioned tv shows.
