RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSONALITY AND PROFESSION CHOICE: A RESEARCH ON TOURISM STUDENTS

Abstract

Choosing a proper profession is an important issue to a person for being more beneficial to his /her own, family and the society. There are many factors that influence the choice of profession such as socio-economic factors, job quality, job guarantee. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between personality traits and choice of proffesion and whether personality traits affect the choice of profession. 653 students attending undergraduate level tourism education participated in the research. Survey form was used as data collection tool. There are some statistical analysis made to data in the result of research. These analyzes were, frequency distribution, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation and regression. The results show that there is a relationship between the choice of profession and personality at different levels according to factors. Extraversion and openness factors have a positive effect on the selection of tourism profession. Neurotic personality trait has a negative effect on the selection of tourism profession. Despite that, neurotic personality trait has a positive influence on choosing the tourism profession because of necessity.
