Abstract

As it is known, climate is the most important ecologic condition for both natural vegetation and agricultural products. Growth and geographical dispersion of plants is determined by temperature and precipitation. Temperature requirement of olive tree is changed in phenological periods. For example, temperature requirement of olive tree is between sprout and blooming period 5-10 ºC, in the blooming period 15-20 ºC and growth period 20-25 ºC. So, in this paper especially we try to explain the effects of temperature conditions on olive growth in the Edremit Gulf. For this purpose, we examined daily mean, maximum and minimum temperature of Ayvalık, Burhaniye and Edremit meteorological stations. Especially we try to determined winter chilling period, effective chilling period and compensation point days in the Edremit Gulf.
