COACHING BEHAVIORS PERCEIVED BY ADOLESCENT ATHLETES

Abstract

Objective of this study is to examine adolescent athletes’ coaching behavior perceiving levels. 104 adolescent athletes, 55 doing a ball sport and 49 doing contact sports, participated in the study. Turkish adaptation of Coaching Behavior Assessment Scale and independent -Samples T-test, one-way analysis of variance and LSD tests were used. Significant differences were found in technical skills (p<0,05), physical training and planning, negative coaching behavior and whole scale (p<0,001). In terms of age, significant difference was found in technical skill, goal setting, competition strategies and negative coaching behaviors (p<0,05). Significant difference was found between athletes doing ball sports and contact sports in physical training and planning, goal setting and whole scale (p<0,05). Coaches training adolescent athletes should pay more attention to their behaviors than coaches training older age groups. The reasons for differences in athletes’ levels of perceiving coaches’ behaviors should be found and necessary precautions should be taken.
