Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine prospective science teachers’ creativity levels by the help of a project study they have done and to obtain their thoughts regarding the effect of this project study on their creativities. In the study, it is required prospective science teachers to construct a movement chain consisting of 10 steps whereas in the daily life they can do with a single movement. The study group consisted of 64 junior prospective science teachers who were enrolling to the “Laboratory Practices in Science Teaching II” course in science education program at X University. Prospective science teachers first of all evaluated their own creativity levels and from these scores the group average creativity score was formed. The products that emerged at the end of the project were evaluated with the "Creativity Evaluation Rubric" prepared by the researchers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the eight prospective science teachers selected among the prospective teachers who give high and low creativity scores to themselves. At the end of the study, it was found that although prospective science teachers found themselves as very creative, the creativity rubric scores of their project products were average or below average. The interviewed prospective science teachers stated that the project work they have completed had positive effects on their own creativity.
