Abstract

The consideration of the specific structure, interests and needs of the children by the individuals, especially the educators, is the basis for establishing a positive environment of growth. From this need, the discovery of children's potentials and the support of their abilities have led to the emergence of a child-centered education. At the core of child-centered education is the principles of equality of opportunity in education, children’s rights and freedom. These principles also ensure that children can socialize in a healthy way. Especially since preschool education, these principles have become a common recognition both in our country and in the world. Thus, child-centered educational initiatives have increased and child-friendly school understanding has emerged. In this study, the contents of child-friendly school concept and the current situation in Turkey are discussed.
