Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the reflective thinking tendencies of physical education and sport teacher candidates according to some demographic variables. The sample of the study consists of 217 students studying in the Department of Physical Education and Sports teaching at Bartın University School of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. "Reflective Thinking Tendency Scale for Teachers and Teacher Candidates" was used as a data collection tool in order to determine opinions of teacher candidates about reflective thinking skills. "Personal Information Form" was applied to obtain information about the variables of the research. According to findings; there was a statistically significant difference in the results of the t-test comparing the tendency of reflective thinking with the gender variable and the mean scores of "open-mindedness", "questioning and effective teaching", "teaching responsibility and science" and "view of the profession" subscales. It can be said that the male teacher candidates tend to think less reflective than the female teacher candidates. In addition, there was no statistically significant difference in the results of the t-test comparing the mean scores of the reflective thinking tendency sub-dimensions according to age and sporting variables (p> 0.05). As a result, while there were no significant differences in the variables of "age" and "sporting situation" in terms of the reflective thinking tendencies of the physical education and sports teacher candidates, differences were found according to the "gender" variable of the teacher candidates.
