Abstract

This research aims to determine whether the attitudes of prospective teachers towards inclusion differ according to their instructional styles and to some other variables. The research was carried out with a total of 399 prospective teachers in the fourth grade of a university in Istanbul in different departments, namely Science, Social Sciences, Turkish, Mathematics, Special Education and Classroom Teaching. Survey method was used in the research. The findings of the research were obtained by using "Opinions Related to Mainstreaming Scale" developed by Antonak and Larrivee (1995) and adapted to Turkish by Kırcaali-İftar (1996) and Teaching Style Scale developed by Grasha (1996) and adapted to Turkish by Üredi (2006). It is found that a large majority of the teacher candidates adopted student centered teaching styles and their general attitudes towards integration were moderate or even unfavorable. The findings revealed that the attitudes of the prospective teachers to the inclusion differ in terms of some variables (their sex, their being trained for inclusion, their department). Here the comments and suggestions regarding the findings were made.
