ON THE APPROACHES TO NOTIONS CORRESPOND TO “RESURRECTION” IN THE OLDEST TURKISH INTERLINEAR TRANSLATIONS OF KORAN

Abstract

Resurrection is one of the most important themes in Koran is the holy writ of Islam when its text is classified thematically. This event which is described in some verses how it will occur but isn’t mentioned its time is symbolized by approximately thirty words and word groups in the text. Under favour of being the first in terms of frequency among the other words and word groups, the common name of this event is “kıyamet” and it originates from the word ?iyameh is the noun form of the polysemic verb ?ame related with its “to stand up” meaning. This word always takes place in the noun phrase yevmX’l-?iyameh with the word yevm means “day” in the text. But this is not the only noun phrase corresponds to resurrection in Koran text. In addition, the term resurrection is corresponded by the metonymias consist of noun phrases yevmu’l-?a??, yevmE’l-?isab, yevmX’l-fa?l whose determinatums are mostly the word yevm and one-word as es-sa?at, el-?a??a, el-?ari?ah. These metonymias consist of the word and word groups mention its features but refer to its own. In this paper, it will be tried to evaluate the background is the basis of the present ressurrection perception in regard to the translations given to these lexemes in Rylands and Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum 73 numbered manuscript declared as the oldest Turkish interlinear translations of Koran.
