Abstract

This study aims to comprison the structual equation modeling (SEM) and regression which are frequently used in social sciences in recent years. Sample group of this study is composed of 200 person, grouped as 135 female and 65 male. Demographic Information Form, Beck Depression Inventory, Maslach Burnout Inventory, the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire are applied as a survey to the participants. In the analysis phase of the data, two different models were established as model 1 (explaining depression with burnout) and model 2 (explaining the quality of life with depression and burnout), and the established models were tested with both SEM analysis and regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, when regression analysis for model 1 found that ? = 0,43 parameter coefficient and R2 = 0,19 coefficient of determination, these values were found as ? = 0,49 and R2 = 0,24 for SEM. Besides, in the regression analysis for the second model, ?1 = -0,21 and ?2 = -0,43 parameter coefficients and R2 = 0,30 coefficient of determination were found. In the SEM result of the same model, ?1 = -0,30 and ?2 = -0,49 parameter coefficients and R2 = 0,33 specificity coefficients were obtained. As a result of comparison, it was seemed that SEM makes more reliable and better predictions than regression.
