Abstract

The invasions initiated by the British after the Mondros Armistice Agreement were one of the mainstays of the Turkish nation's independence movement, which is described as national struggle. This situation also extended the First World War for three years more. One of the most important reasons for this was the British policy and goal towards Ottoman Empire. Since the beginning of the 19th century with the industrialization, the interest of the British in the Ottoman Empire and its geography had increased gradually. One of the most important pillars of the empire on which the sun never set was the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East region. The British thought that it was very important to establish a "Kurdistan" under their auspices to carry out these ambitions, and they were involved in various activities to seize the region by using the so-called self-determination right as a cover. British intelligence officer major Noel was sent to the region for this purpose. In this article, the Kurdish policy of the British in the National Struggle and the activities of major Noel will be examined.
