Abstract

Communication is transmisson of people’s knowledge, feelings and thoughts to others in various ways. Today, the importance of communication has increased with mass media tools. With the progress of technology, these communication tools can now easily reach people not only in physical environments, but also in virtual environments. In our age, communication is provided with wide range of mass media tools. Amongst the main mass media communication tools television, radio, newpapers, internet etc. are the most popular ones. However, sometimes communication that is provied only in writing is not sufficient to deliver most striking messages. For that reason, mass media communication tools such as posters having more visual attributes are used on streets, shopping centers and many other places. Posters become even more effective on communication especially when liven up and colorized with shapes, paintings, images and writings. Movie posters are one of the most common examples to attempts of forming lively and striking communication amongs people. In those movie posters, different marketing and promotions are targeted by affecting the subconscious of people with many symbols used. With these symbols, people are communicated some times in positve but in some times in negative manner. In this article, how people are communicated through images and colors within movie posters will be examined with eight posters belonging to different movies.
