Abstract

Along with the emergence of Islam and its impact on the environment, there have been objections to the messages of Islam. Anti-Islamic books have started to be written in the cultural field triggered by political events. As a result of Muslims spreading especially to the regions where Christians live, some Christian writers have entered the race for disparagement against Islam, the Qur'an and St. Muhammad. They claimed that St. Muhammad was not a true prophet and the Quran was not a divine book. In fact, they tried to distort the historical facts. The struggles and conflicts between Christians and Muslims has continued throughout history as a politically / militarily and culturally. Along with the 18th century, the westerner intellectuals have taken the lead in examining Islam in its own direction by having seen him superior to every field. One of them was the Dutch orientalist Dozy who wrote the book called De Voornaamste Godsdiensten: Het Islamisme. This work was translated into Turkish by Abdullah Cevdet under the name of History of Islam and many refutations were written by the intellectuals of that time. One of these rejections is History of Islam, written by Filipeli Ahmed Hilmi. In this work, we try to examine to western authors from the birth of Islam, especially Dozy's views on Islam, Qur'an and St. Muhammad, with based on the book History of Islam written by Filipeli Ahmed Hilmi.
