Abstract

Universities are top-level educational institutions that are regarded as locomotives of science and development. In developed countries, many universities carry out research beyond the age- education, as well as the age. Libraries have a great importance to conduct of these surveys. To have a sense of contemporary education, librarianship needs to be carried out in accordance with the needs of the times. “Field librarianship” is being made for higher quality education in some of the developed western countries at universities. Academic studies in the field of geography librarianship are inadequate. There is inadequacy in terms of academic studies related to this subject in some aspects. It is thought that positive steps will be taken with the libraries to be established to eliminate this deficiency. This study examines the importance of field librarianship and geography librarianship with the sample of Buca Education Faculty in Dokuz Eylül University. In the research, the historical development of librarianship, the current state of librarianship in our universities, the importance of field librarianship and geography librarianship has been deal with in the light of relevant literature. In addition, a sample of Buca Education Faculty in Dokuz Eylül University, aimed to raise awareness about “field librarianship” by analyzing the current situation. The study is important for the contribution of universities in Turkey to provide awareness of the lack of geography libraries and to present their research to be done later as a literature or idea.
