Abstract

This study examines Sema Moritz, a singer who is engaged in research and studies on Anatolian Music in Turkey and Germany and presents her studies with her albums. Moritz included the genres in Turkish art and musical culture from the Ottoman era up until today in her musical and artistic life from the 1980s up until today, and sang lullabies, folk songs, cantos, chants, poems on Bektashi and Alevi songs, tangos, foxtrots, works of Turkish music and works of other cultures who have lived in Anatolian territories. Moritz designates herself as a narrator and she doesn’t use a single musical style while producing her music. This study aims to investigate Moritz’s artistic life and her studies contributing to our cultural heritage.The researcher accompanied Sema Moritz during various concerts and projects as from 2012, and performed her studies and any works she sang together with her. The present paper aims to examine the researcher’s observations as a result of the interview made with Sema Moritz and of the projects that the researcher was involved in with the artist, and Moritz’s artistic life and her studies contributing to our cultural heritage.
