Computerand internet-baseddigitalmediaeffectschildren'sgames, children'seducationandtheirhealth, morebroadly, thesocialization of children. Socialnetworkingsites, whicharebased on digitalmediatechnologyhaveconstitutednewspacesforindividualandsocial life. Duetothechildrenuse of the internet long-term, internet addiction has beenspreadingrapidly. The internet addictionaffectschildren'sdevelopment in allrespectsnegatively. Children is gettingincreasingly in interactionwithsocialmedia. Thenature of theirrelationswith urban families, neighbours, relatives, neighbourhoodresidentsandtheirnaturalenvironments can have an effect on theincreasing of thisinteraction. On thecontrary, theeffect of traditionalinstitutions is graduallydecreasing.
Inthisqualitativestudy, an inductivemethod, and semi-structuredinterview, observationsareused. Positiveandnegativeconsequences of digitalmediaandchildrenrelationsareevaluatedaccordingtotheparents’ observations, experiencesandthoughtswhoareliving in İstanbul'sdistricts Küçükçekmece, Şişli and Üsküdar.
