EXAMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LANGUAGE LEARNING MOTIVATION AND SELF-EFFICIACY BELIEFS of UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the relationship between language learning motivation and self-efficacy belief levels of university students. The study group consists of 200 students studying at the International Relations Department of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of a university located in the Central Anatolian Region in the academic year of 2017-2018. In order to answer the research problems of the study, a personal information form prepared by the researchers with the aim of collecting the demographics of the participants, “Language Learning Motivation Scale” developed by Mehdiyev, Uğurlu and Usta (2017) and “General Self-Efficacy Belief Scale” developed by Schwarzer and Jerusalem (1995) and adopted to Turkish language by Alpay (2010) were used. As a result of the research, it is found that foreign language learning motivation level of the students was at a good level. The general self-efficacy beliefs of the students were found to be moderate level. When the relationship between language learning motivation levels and general self-efficacy beliefs of the students were examined, significant correlations were found between these two factors as [r = .18].
