Abstract

At the forefront of the issues that business executives need to focus on for the purpose of providing competitive advantage is the development and maintenance of a core competency that provides customer benefits, differentiates them from competitors, creates opportunities for entry into new markets, and acts as a vehicle for reaching the vision. Awareness of the basic skills that are recommended to be developed over the best of them is of great importance. This descriptive study aimed to reveal the attitudes of SMEs operating in the Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone to core competences. The majority of firms participating in the survey stated that they have core competences. Quality products are among these. It has been determined that those firms who have core competences referred the research benefits from the comparison made with competitors in determining this ability. It can be said that the vast majority of enterprises believe in the importance and necessity of the core competences. In addition, it is mentioned that the lack of core competences has negative effects on the enterprises with high cost and low profit.
