Abstract

Education, one of the most significant concepts in human history, evolves in terms of its intent and method due to the changing conditions of society over time. Orienteering sport, an important educational facility in recent years is a sport that requires skills to figure out control points on the map of the given areas. The aim of this paper is to analyze the curriculum of geography, physical education and sport in the secondary schools, and to investigate the effect of orienteering for attaining the learning outcomes. In this paper examined is the interaction between the learning outcomes in the Turkish national curriculum and orienteering sport. The findings have indicated that there are direct or indirect gains, with regard to the inclusion of orienteering activities in the curriculum. As a result of examining the curriculum of geography and physical education and sport updated on the January of 2018, in this paper put forward is that the choice of orienteering in the educational activities is likely to be useful for the students to attain the goals, and that the orienteering sports is also likely to be useful to improve the skills of geography and sport.
