Abstract

There has been an ongoing debate on whether the phenomenon of creativity belongs to a process of disorders. This thought brings the examination of how psychological disorders are reflected on artworks. In this article, the link between psychological disorders and artworks is studied in the frame of psychoanalytical theory. Firstly, Freud’s approach as the founder of psychoanalytical theory towards personality as id, ego and superego are used to explain the conflict factors in creativity. Following this, the innovation Jung brought to psychoanalysis are mentioned over archetypes and collective unconscious. In the next chapter, artists Vincent van Gogh and Yoyoi Kusama are given as examples to mention the link between creativity and insanity. In the last chapter, patients artworks with disorders such as Schizophrenia, Manic- Depressive, Depression, Bipolar and Asperger are explained in terms of color and form.
