Abstract

Istanbul is one of the important cities in the world from more many aspects as social, cultural, economic and also hosts a lot of different cultures. These features of Istanbul being talked about are important factors which attracting many travelers from the world countries. This situation is a subject that has existed since ancient times. It can be said that Istanbul which was the capital of Ottoman Empire is among important locations on travels which being made to the Eastern states by many Western thinkers as well as especially the modern period In this article will focus on orientalist images in the travel memories about Istanbul of Western- origin writers. This works are Istanbul The Most Beautiful City of The World that written by French author Théophile Gautier (Birth 1811 – death 1872) and Istanbul put which down on paper by Italian thinker Edmondo De Amicis (Birth 1846 – death 1908). In both studies mentioned, it will put emphasis on the common points and contradictions in their shares, whether the impressions of the authors have traces of each other. In this study will be used imagology and comparative literature data.
