Abstract

Divanu Lugati’t Turk is our first masterpiece written on behalf of Teaching Turkish as Foreign Language. However, date of teaching Turkish as a foreign language can be traced back to the Sumerian period. We understand this situation from the borrowed words. The field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language which has that far historical background seems to be lagging behind due to lack a written document. After the proclamation of the Republic, this field got accelerated and especially in 1984 with the establishment of the Ankara University TOMER the field began to progress in a good way. After TOMER, Ankara University has taken steps in the name of teaching Turkish as a foreign language at other universities. There have been many practices and theory oriented studies in the academic sense. According to the hierarchical established system it is continuing to teaching Turkish as a foreign language through four basic skills. The graduate positive studies are available at some universities. Turkish Education and Turkish Language and Literature Department students interest to the filed is increasing with each passing days. Teaching Turkish as Foreign Language caused positive developments in terms of opening undergraduate programs. Despite all this positive atmosphere it has not yet reached the desired level. Especially with regards to source, there are significant gaps in the methods and techniques. In our world, there are disability people throughout our lives and ignoring them is the biggest mistake that can be made. Because no obstacles can stop the disabled people beside our ignoring them. Especially if we want to make Turkish language as the world language, we have to work twice as much from other communities and target to reach more people. In the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language there is no any studies conducted for the disabled people. There are also handicapped in every part of our lives so works for the disabled people must urgently be done. In this study, we will try to check by addressing the different variables of teaching Turkish as a foreign language to the visually impaired within the framework of social responsibility. In this study, we deal with the problems in teaching Turkish as a foreign language to the visually impaired and explained what steps should be taken while teaching Turkish as a foreign language to the visually impaired.
