Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of positive group psychotherapy for university students who have psychological problems. This study conducted on one group pre-post test design. In this study, Beck Depression Inventory and Positive-Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) were used to evaluate the group psychotherapy. To analysis of data, WilCoxon Sign Test and descriptive statistics were used. According to results, there were significant differences between pre and post-tests points. In other words, their problems (Pre-Mdn = 7.50; Post-Mdn = 2.50; Z = -3.07; p = 0.00), negative affects (Pre-Mdn = 25.00; Post-Mdn = 19.50; Z = -2.95; p = 0.01), and also depression levels (Pre-Mdn = 27.00; Post-Mdn = 21.00; Z = -2.35; p = 0.02) were diminished. Additionally, their positive affects were increased (Pre-Mdn = 33.00; Post-Mdn = 38.50; Z = -2.02; p = 0.04). As a result, the Positive Group Psychotherapy was effective. This program might be used. Some similar studies might be conducted on different groups.
