Abstract
In the present study, it was tried to analyze virtues of the 3rd, 10th, 18th, 42nd, 45th, 47th, 53rd and 60th Irks mentioned in the Irk Bitig, a wisdom book, which correspond to symbolic narrations. When analyzed texts were considered from the points of semantics and pragmatics, it was realized that “ırks” were not related with fortune; and they were trying to transfer messages to their readers, distilled from Turkic tradition and universal wisdom. This study is a trial to enter universe of archaic teaching hidden by the Irk Bitig. Other studies could reveal more detailed and acceptable decipherments of other teachings. Therefore, opinions presented in this study were given as theories requiring investigation instead of the one with absolute accuracy level. Such studies, quite likely, will unveil clearly that although Turks have changed their colors as they have adopted various faiths along their histories, they inherit their ancient traditions like relic in their memories and self; and maintained universal virtues captured from the faiths they adopted in the history.
