Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between job stress (JS) and general occupational perception (GOP) of the worker and the mediating role of Perceived Organizational Support (POS) between Job stress and Occupational Perception. For this purpose, the job stress, occupational perception and percieved organizational support levels of the cooks were investigated. The data were obtained through questionnaires from the chefs participating in the Golden Grab International Food Competition held in Alanya in 2014, and the findings are limited to the 163 cooks participating in this survey. Survey data were obtained by easy sampling. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 program. Descriptive statistical methods (number, percentage, mean, standard deviation) were used when the data were evaluated. The t-test was used for comparison of quantitative data, the one-way ANOVA test was used for more than one group comparisons, and the Scheffe Post Hoc test was used to determine the difference. The relationship between the dependent and independent variables of the study was tested by Pearson correlation and the effect was tested by regression analysis. As a result, the level of Job stress of the participants in the study was "moderate"; The level of organizational support was "high"; The level of general occupational perception was "high"; The level of perception of Occupations social reputation was "too high"; The Level of Individual Perception for the Occupation was found to be "high". The findigs show that, the level of occupational perception was negatively correlated with the level of Work Stress and positively correlated with Perceived Organizational Support level. While there is a negative correlation between Perceived Organizational Support and Work Stress, it has been found that the Perceived Organizational Support variable has no mediating role between Work Stress and Occupational Perception.
