Abstract

The aim of the present study is to determine self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes towards profession levels of pre-service teachers and to identify the relationship between two variables. The research is based on survey method. The sample of the research consists of 400 students selected by layer sampling method from the prospective teachers at different branches and class levels in Mersin University. 'Teacher Proficiency Scale', 'Attitude Scale Towards Teaching Profession' and 'Personal Information Form' were used as data collection tools in the research. The research data have been analyzed via SPSS 20.0. In order to identify self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes towards profession of pre-service teachers, frequency, average and standard deviation values have been used. Furthermore, whether there is a meaningful relationship between self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes towards profession, the data have been analyzed via Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient. In order to highlight whether self-efficacy predicts attitudes towards profession or not, regression analysis has been conducted. According to findings obtained without working; It is seen that the self-efficacy perceptions of the teacher candidates are at the "adequate" level and the attitudes towards the profession are at the "somewhat agree" level. It has been found that there is a significant relationship between the self-efficacy perception and the attitude toward the teaching profession in moderate and positive direction. The teacher significantly predicts the occupational attitudes of the applicants' self-efficacy perceptions and explains about 2% of the total variance.
