Abstract
Bu çalışma, Türk Edebiyatının önemli şahsiyetlerinden birisi olan Ahmet Şuayb ve Onun Osmanlıca “20. Asırda Tarih” isimli makalesinin sadeleş-tirilmesini içermektedir. Makalenin çevirisine geçmeden önce Ahmet Şu-ayb hakkında kısa bir biyografik bilgi verilmiştir. Daha sonra makalenin çevirisine yer verilmiştir. Makalede Yirminci Asırda Tarih filozoflarının tarih telakkileri incelenmektedir. Ayrıca tarihi incelemelerdeki ilmi usuller anlatılmaktadır. Eski tarihçilerin ve çağdaş tarihçilerin bakış açıları karşı-laştırılmaktadır. Ayrıca tarihi eserlerdeki hitabet ve belagatin önemine değinilmektedir. Yazar, bu eserlerde tarihçilerin okuyucuları etkilemek için, nasıl parlak ve güzel ifadeler eklediğinden söz etmektedir. Yirminci Asır tarihçileri ise, tarihin gelişme çizgisine belirlemeye çalışmaktadırlar. Bu konuda Alman filozofu Hegel ile Fransız edebiyatçı Taine’i örnek vermektedir. Ahmet Şuayb’ın ilerlemeci ve pozitivist tarih felsefesinin et-kisi altında kaldığı anlaşılmaktadır. Bunu gösteren bir yöntem anlayışı makaleye yansımaktadır. Ona göre tarihteki tekâmül kanunu insanları bütün telakkilerini değiştirmiştir.

Abstract
This work is about Ahmet Şuayb, one of the most important figures of Turkish Literature, and simplification of his article named as "History in the 20th Century" which is in Ottoman Turkish. Before the translation of the article, a short biographical information was mentioned about Ahmet Shuab. Then the translation of the article was included. In the article, historical considerations of the history philosophers during the twentieth century is examined. Besides, scientific methods in the historical examinations are explained. Viewpoints of ancient historians and contemporary historians are compared. In addition, the significance of oratory and rhetoric in historical work are mentioned. Author discusses how historians add bright and beautiful expressions to influence readers. The Twentieth Century historians try to determine the progress line of the history. In this context, German philosopher Hegel and the French men of letters Taine are shown as examples. It is understood that Ahmet Şuayb is under the influence of progressive and positivist philosophy of history. A method which shows this situation is reflected in the article. According to him, the law of evolution in history has changed people's all considerations.
