Abstract
Bu çalışmada, geleneksel olarak sesin veya sözün yokluğu, pasif bir akustik boşluk şeklinde tanımlanan "sessizlik" olgusunu; ontolojik, estetik, toplumsal ve yapısal katmanları bağlamında disiplinlerarası bir perspektifle incelenmektedir. Felsefi düzlemde sessizlik, dilsizlikten ziyade varlığın ve hakikatin duyulur hale geldiği pozitif ve kurucu bir zemin olarak ele alınmaktadır. Sosyolojik ve kültürel boyutta, modern gürültü çağında kıt bir lükse dönüşen bu olgu, iletişimsel ilişkileri düzenleyen stratejik bir anlam taşıyıcısıdır. Müzik sanatında ise sessizlik (esler), eserin akışını kesintiye uğratan rastgele boşluklar değil; müzikal formun mimari bütünlüğünü inşa eden, dramatik gerilimi yöneten ve performansa dinleyicinin zihinsel katılımını sağlayan aktif bir yapı taşıdır. Avangart yaklaşımlarla birlikte ölçülebilir bir "süre" birimi olarak yeniden tanımlanan sessizlik, niyet edilmemiş çevre seslerini de kapsayan bir alana dönüşmüştür. Sonuç olarak bu araştırmada, sessizliğin yapıtı sınırlayan bir eksiklik değil, estetik ve bilişsel algıyı bizzat var eden temel bir değer olduğu ortaya konmaktadır.

Abstract
This study examines the phenomenon of "silence"—traditionally defined as the absence of sound or speech, or as a passive acoustic void—from an interdisciplinary perspective, focusing on its ontological, aesthetic, social, and structural layers. On a philosophical level, silence is treated not as muteness, but as a positive and constitutive ground where existence and truth become audible. In the sociological and cultural dimension, this phenomenon, which has become a scarce luxury in the modern age of noise, serves as a strategic carrier of meaning that regulates communicative relations in both Eastern and Western practices. In the art of music, silence (rests) does not consist of random gaps interrupting the flow of a piece; rather, it is an active building block that constructs the architectural integrity of the musical form, manages dramatic tension, and ensures the listener's cognitive participation in the performance. Redefined as a measurable unit of "duration" through avant-garde approaches, silence has transformed into a democratic space that also encompasses unintended environmental sounds. Consequently, this research demonstrates that silence is not a deficiency that limits the artwork, but a fundamental value that intrinsically generates aesthetic and cognitive perception.
