Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi Kütüphanesi Revan Köşkü koleksiyonunda yer alan R.875 envanter numaralı Hamse-i Nizâmî nüshasının tezhip desenleri, vektörel tabanlı dijitalleştirme yaklaşımıyla incelenmiştir.

Abstract

Illumination is a fundamental decorative art that forms the aesthetic identity of manuscripts and increases their artistic value. The illumination patterns in manuscripts are not merely decorative elements surrounding the texts; they are also visual documents that reflect the stylistic characteristics, motif diversity, color usage, and compositional understanding of the period in which they were produced. However, over time, these patterns may deteriorate due to environmental effects, physical conditions such as humidity and light, unfavorable preservation environments, and use-related deformations; the integrity of the pattern, color structures, and readability of the motifs may be partially or completely impaired. This situation makes it necessary to document, analyze, and transmit illumunation patterns, which also carry the quality of cultural heritage, to future generations through digital methods. In this study, the illumination patterns of the Khamse by Nizâmî manuscript numbered R.875, located in the Revan Köşkü collection of the Topkapı Palace Museum Library, were examined through a vector-based digitization approach. Within the scope of the research, the visuals belonging to the selected work were obtained in digital environment, and the patterns were recreated through a high-resolution vector drawing method using the Adobe Illustrator program. In the study, contour structures were determined, motifs were separated, color areas were defined, symmetry and repetition relationships were evaluated, and pattern components were arranged in layers. Areas that could not be directly read in the visuals or that remained incomplete due to deformation were reinterpreted by taking into consideration the existing parts of the motif, compositional balance, the repeating pattern system, and the formal characteristics belonging to the art of illumination. In the study, especially the layering of rumi, cloud, dendan, and vegetal motifs in the digital environment and their display with different colors contributed to making the pattern components more understandable, comparable, and analyzable. In this respect, the study goes beyond merely visually archiving tezhip patterns and presents an applicable example for transforming the decorative elements in historical manuscripts into a vector data structure.
