Double coding, which is addressed in this study, is an important concept used by Charles Jencks in the field of postmodern architecture. Jencks, who laid the theoreti-cal foundation for modern architecture, criticizes uniform architecture while arguing that modern architecture can simultaneously incorporate diverse cultural codes. The theory of double coding, as applied in detail to architecture, has a multilayered structure and takes into account not only the elite but also the general public. There has not been sufficient research in the field of fine arts on the theory of double co-ding, which forms a visual language spanning from architecture to art. At this point, this study which is shaped along an interdisciplinary axis aims to adapt the theory of double coding, an architecture-centered concept, not only to the field of architectu-re but also to the field of visual arts, and to analyze how this concept operates in con-temporary art production. The research also aims to address the theoretical gap in the field’s literature by examining the concept of double coding within the context of the visual arts, thereby contributing to the multilayered structure of meaning in postmodern art. In this qualitative study, the works of Pop Art artist Andy Warhol and conceptual ar-tist Barbara Kruger were analyzed using a comparative approach to examine how double coding manifests in artistic production. Based on the findings, the relations-hip between art and society was evaluated, and a comparative analysis was conduc-ted of the perceptions of an ordinary person toward a work of art versus those of an art viewer with cultural background..
