Abstract
Çalışma, küreselleşme sürecinde Çingene/Roman toplumunun sosyo-ekonomik koşullarındaki değişimleri keşfetmekte ve beklentilerini göz önüne sermektedir. Çingene/Roman toplumunun geçim stratejileri küreselleşme sürecinde değişime ve dönüşüme uğramakta; topluluğunun geleneksel iş ve meslek faaliyetlerinin ortadan kalkması yoksulluğu arttırmaktadır. Çingene/Roman toplumunun derinleşen yoksulluğu ve yoksunluğu ve gelecekteki sosyo-ekonomik koşulları, geçim kaynakları stratejileri, eğlence/müzik, kunduracılık, tarım, geri dönüşüm sektörleri, işportacılık ve sokak satıcılığı işleriyle uyraşanlar bağlamında incelendi. Küreselleşme sürecinde, bu meslek ve mesleklerde yaşanan değişim ve dönüşüm üzerine yoğunlaşıldı. Çalışmada, Çingene/Roman toplumunun kişisel eğitim düzeyleri, eğitime yaklaşımları ve eğitim düzeyleri ile istihdam durumları arasındaki ilişki de incelendi. İzmir, Çingene/Roman toplumunun yoğun olarak yaşadığı şehirlerden biridir. Bu şehir örnek olarak seçildi.. Derinlemesine görüşme yöntemi ile 77 kişi ile görüşüldü. Çalışmada Çingene/Roman topluluğunun sosyo-ekonomik koşulları, iş ve mesleki dinamikleri incelenmiştir. Çingene/Roman toplumunun eğitim ve istihdam olanaklarına erişimde karşılaştığı zorluklar, küreselleşme süreci boyunca yoksulluk ve yoksunluklarını derinleştirmektedir. Çingene/ Roman toplumunun şimdiki ve gelecek nesilleri için yaşam koşulları gittikçe zorlaşmaktadır

Abstract
Aim of this study is to explore the changes in Gypsy/Roman community’s socio-economic conditions due to globalization and consider their expectations. It is observed that globalization process has lead to a change and a transformation in Gypsy/Roman community’s livelihood strategies. Disappearance of traditional jobs and occupational activities of Gypsy/Roman community increases poverty and deprivations of these people. Deepening poverty and deprivation and future socio-economic conditions of Gypsy/Roman community living in Turkey have been examined predicating on their livelihood strategies. In this regard, entertainment/music, shoe making, agriculture, recycling sectors and peddling and street vending are chosen. This study focuses on change and transformation experienced in these jobs and occupations during the globalization process. The study also studies the personal education degree of Gypsy/Roman community, their approach to the phenomenon of education and the relationship between their education levels and their employment status. İzmir is one of the cities that Gypsy/Roman community densely lives. This city is chosen as a sample. The study is performed in eight different neighborhoods that are densely populated by Gypsy/Roman community. 77 people were interviewed by in-depth interview. Evidence of the socio-economic conditions of Gypsy/Roman community and their job and occupational dynamics have been found. The difficulties that Gypsy/Roman community face while accessing education and employment opportunities deepen their poverty and deprivation during the globalization process. Living conditions are getting harder for contemporary and future generations of Gypsy/Roman community.
