The origin of the Turkic-Tatar society in Finland is based on the merchants from the Idil (Volga) -Ural region of Russia, who has come in 1860s. After the October Revolution in 1917, the events which have been taken place and the closing of the borders made impossible for the Turks returning to their homeland. When Finland gained its independence from Russia, the Turkic Tatars became Finnish citizens and legally recognized by the Finnish government as an Islamic community. Although Finland has succeeded in getting its independence from Russia, but it has continued to have problems with the Soviet Union, the inheritor of the Russian Empire from time to time.
