Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of teaching reading and writing by using drama method to a student diagnosed with dyslexia. For this purpose, a case study was conducted since it was aimed to determine the effectiveness of teaching of reading and writing by using the method of dyslexic children. The population of the study consists of children diagnosed with dyslexia in the central district of Ankara in the 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study consists of a second-year student with dyslexia who has received special education at home. ‘Personal Information Form’, ‘Letters Recognition Control Form’, ‘Writing Test’, ‘Interview Forms’, ‘Drama Activities’, ‘Voice Recording’ and photographs were used as date collection tools. Content analysis was preferred to analyse and evaluate the data to be obtained from the data collection tools. Twelve drama activities were applied to the student with the participation of the researcher. After the event, interviews were made and observation form was completed. At the end of the research, it was found out that drama method had a positive effect on the permanence of the knowledge obtained through activities. It is thought that drama method increases the permanence of learning since it is learned by living as a student and takes an activity part in the activities.
